PURPOSE:To obtain an output from which an error is always removed and accurately measure the viscoelastic characteristics of the coating layer of a composite specimen by providing the middle portion of the specimen with an inertial body and measuring a dumping oscillation waveform while applying a tension to the specimen. CONSTITUTION:A turn table 24 for giving a specimen 21 an initial oscillation is rotatably provided on the supporting mount 23 of an instrument and a diaphragm device 25 and a frame 26 are provided in the central position and on the periphery of the turn table 24, respectively. An inertial body 22 is mounted to the middle portion of the specimen 21 mounted between chucks 28A and 28B and the arm 22A of the inertial body 22 are provided with metal plates 22B and 22C at both ends. Further, a tension adjuster 29 is provided in a position wherein the specimen 21 is stretched in a straight line on the center of the table 24 and displacement sensors 30B and 30C are provided between the frame 26 and the metal plates 22B and 22C, respectively. A dumping oscillation is measured while applying a tension to the specimen 21 and an output from which an error is always removed is obtained to measure the viscoelastic characteristics of the specimen 21 with a high accuracy.
