CONSTITUTION:The part of the sliding member from a piston head 10 along the lateral outside peripheral face 2 of a piston 1 as the 1st member down to the part below the bottom surface of a top ring groove 6 is formed of the following composite material 12: The material 12 consisting of alumina.silica fibers composed of >=40wt% Al2O3 and the balance substantially SiO2 and having 3-30% vol. ratio as reinforcing fibers and an Al alloy or Mg alloy as matrix is used. On the other hand, the top ring 4 as the 2nd member sliding relatively with the above-mentioned piston 1 in contact therewith is formed of a metal such as spheroidal graphite cast iron coated with the thermally sprayed layer of Mo (not shown) on the bottom surface 17 of the top ring 4 which is the sliding surface part thereof with the piston 1. |
