In the drive train (3) between the two axles (4, 5), a motor vehicle with four-wheel drive has a frictional clutch (6). This clutch (6) can be controlled by means of a control element (7). In order to improve the braking behaviour of the motor vehicle and reduce the risk of lock-up by relatively simple means, the clutch (6) can be operated with the aid of at least one rotational speed sensor (9) for the wheels of one axle (4; 5), the said sensor being connected to the control element (7). The intention is that the clutch (6) should be released if a predetermined gradient of the reduction in rotational speed is exceeded. If desired, the brake pressure for the wheels of the rear axle (5) can be reducible at the same time. <IMAGE>
