In a pump along the lines of a Roots pump it is provided that the two rotors (7 and 8) are of different sizes and are arranged in cylindrical segment-shaped housing sections (2 and 3 respectively) with different diameters (D1 and D2 respectively). Advantageously it can furthermore be provided that the larger of the two rotors (7, 7') exhibits longitudinal edges (17, 18) running essentially parallel to each other and, on its narrow sides (19', 20'), exhibits over an angular range alpha around the longitudinal axis (14) a radius of curvature (D2/2) which corresponds approximately to the radius of curvature of the associated housing section (3). <IMAGE>
