The four stroke internal combustion engine has outlet connected e.g. to two separate turbine units. The engine has an outlet valve (4) and inlet valve (5). Exhaust gases are fed, via an outlet pipe (6) to a series-connected turbine unit (7). The other turbine (8) is connected to motor shaft (3). The exhaust gas pipe may include a by-pass line (6'') which connects the motor exhaust directly with one turbine . In normal operation, the outlet pressure is higher than the inlet pressure.
