Composting plant with plural horizontal elongate silos and a compost turning and between silos transfer device

A composting plant comprises a series of side-by-side elongate silos with a turning device F movable lengthwise of a silo for lifting composting material therefrom and transferring it to the adjacent silo. The turning device F comprises a flexible conveyor extending over wheels 8 and 7 at the top and bottom thereof respectively, so as to be capable of lifting material through a substantial height and flinging it back for deposition on a cross conveyor 6 which deposits it into an adjacent silo. Means are described for disabling the cross conveyor so that the lifted material can simply be returned, turned and aerated, to the same silo from which it has been lifted.
