PURPOSE:To enhance the safety of door operation with the use of a device for stopping the operation of a door of a vehicle such as an automobile or the like, by providing a sensor for measuring the distance between an obstacle outside of the vehicle and the door, on the door, and by actuating a variable damping force type oil damper in accordance with the result of the measurement to stop the opening operation of the door. CONSTITUTION:A control unit 2 detects the opening operation of a door by means of a door opening detector 4 or an outer door handle condition detector 5. Further, when the door is opened but not from the outside, the control unit 2 reads a measured value from a distance sensor 1 and judges whether the door strikes against the obstacle outside of the vehicle or not. When the judgement is such that the door strikes upon the obstacle, the control unit 2 actuates a door opening operation stopping mechanism 9 to brake the door on opening operation to obtain a suitable door opening degree. Accordingly, it is possible to prevent the door from striking against the obstacle to enhance the safety of door operation. |
