PURPOSE:To measure sludge portion in tar accurately, by a method wherein solid components are separated from the tar heated with a centrifugal separating machine and precisely measured after the solid components being separated are cleaned and dried. CONSTITUTION:A tar heated up to 50-150 deg.C is separated centrifugally for more than 10min with a centrifugal separating machine applying a centrifugal force exceeding 5,000G. Then, solid components being separated are washed by a solvent to remove tar components completely and sludge alone is extracted. Then, the sludge cleared of the tar is dried to remove the solvent. The dried sludge is precisely measured and sludge portion is calculated by a specified formula.
