PURPOSE:To reduce the number of times of transferring gradation data to a recording head and to shorten a transfer time by transferring the digital gradation data to be recorded to the recording head on a two-gradation basis. CONSTITUTION:A line buffer part 2 is made up of a memory storing data of one line and a multiplexer switching addresses, data and various control signals. The part 2 switches a group of addresses and data control signals, both of which are inputted from the outside, and a group of addresses and control signals, both of which are inputted from a line buffer control part 3, and transmits them a data processing part 4. Data that is inputted to the line buffer part 2 from the outside is the digital gradation data to be recorded. The data processing part 4 compares that data with reference data and transfers them to the recording head 1 by two gradations. Thus the number of times of transferring the gradation data to the recording head can be reduced, and the transfer time can be shortened.
