<p>PURPOSE:To promote the reduction of steering force in the time of a manual control, by providing a clutch interposing between a pinion shaft and a power transmitting member, in the case of a steering device which transmits power of an electric motor to the pinion shaft through the power transmitting member. CONSTITUTION:Steering force of a steering wheel is transmitted to a pinion shaft 3, and its pinion 3a is meshed with a rack 7a of a rack shaft, thus a device, which moves the rack in its axial direction by rotating said shaft 3, steers a steering wheel. While a bevel gear 36 is provided in the bottom part of the pinion shaft 3, and the auxiliary force of an electric motor 42 is given to the pinion shaft 3 by turning a bevel gear 41, meshed with said bevel gear 36, by the electric motor 42. Here the device provides a clutch 24, comprising a driving plate 25, coil 28a, driven plate 32, etc., to be interposed between the bevel gear 36 and the pinion shaft 3. And this clutch 24 is controlled so as to be disengaged in the time of high speed running with no necessity for power assistance.</p> |
