PURPOSE:To easily and efficiently and exactly determine the editing point of a continuous sound by obtaining the time code of a true editing point through a still picture which is displayed by means of making the sound level of a PCM (pulse code modulation) sound signal into the picture. CONSTITUTION:When the editing point is registered, the picture, showing the change of a sound volume during 3min before and after a registered editing point 51 respectively, and an abscissa axis shows a time (sec) from the registered editing point 51, while an ordinate axis shows a sound level (dB). A full line 53 in a figure is drawn by taking the mean value of the sound signal during the same period as one frame period of a television video signal, and by connecting them continuously with another, and a broken line is the peak value of the sound signal during one frame period. A level 52 shows the reference level of the sound, and a white cursor 55 showing the editing point is superimposed on the registered editing point 51. For a correction, an operation is turned to a correction mode, and the position of the cursor 55 showing the editing point is moved (56) by a dial equipped on a panel surface. Here, the editing point is determined through pushing a registering switch again.
