PURPOSE:To form a polysaccharide NSG-1 which exhibits an antitumor activity by oral administration, as well as by injection and direct administration, by the incubation of a polysaccharide NSG-1 producing cultured bacterium in a saccharide-containing solution. CONSTITUTION:The title product is an antitumor-active polysaccharide NSG-1 formed by the incubation of a polysaccharide NSG-1 producing cultured bacterium in a saccharide-containing solution. The polysaccharide NSG-1 is obtained by causing the hypha of a strain belonging to the family Sclerotinia to act enzymatically on a saccharide such as glucose and collecting the separated product. The polysaccharide NSG-1 has such a structure that the main chain is a beta-1,3-bonded glucose, with one beta-1,6-bonded glucose branched from every two glucose residues, consists of 42.4-44.0%C, 5.9-6.2% H and N in less than the threshold limit value in elementary analysis, has a mol.wt. (according to a gel filtration method) in the range of 10<6>-10<7>, above is thermally decomposed on blackening, at a melting point of 230 deg.C is soluble in water and alkalis and insoluble in ethyl alcohol and acetone. |
