PURPOSE:To obtain the title composition excellent in heat resistance, curability and toughness, by mixing a maleimide resin with a specified resol phenolic resin, a phosphine, an organic peroxide and an alkaline earth metal (hydr)oxide. CONSTITUTION:100pts.wt. maleimide resin (A) of formula I [wherein n>=0, mi (wherein i is 0-n), mn+1, mn+2, li, lin+1, ln+2 are each 1 or 2, X and Y are each -CH2-, -O-, -SO2-, -S-, -S-S-, a group of any one of formulas II-IV or a direct bond, Y is at least one of the above groups or a direct bond and R is H, CH3 or C2H5] is mixed with 5-200pts.wt. resol phenolic resin (B) of an m.p. of 50-120 deg.C, 0.1-10pts.wt. phosphine (C) (e.g., triphenylphosphine), 0.05-5pts.wt. organic peroxide (D) (e.g., di-t-butyl peroxide), 0.1-10pts.wt., per 100pts.wt. component B, alkaline earth metal (E) (hydr)oxide (e.g., MgO).
