PURPOSE:To carry out coating in good workability on the outer plate of automobile, etc. in the 2-coat-1-bake system, of an aqueous coating composition comprising a water-dispersible film-forming acrylic polymer, a crosslinking agent prepared by dispersing in water a hydrophobic melamine resin, and a pigment. CONSTITUTION:The objective coating can be accomplished by coating, on the outer plate of automobiles or electrical appliances, etc., in the 2-coat-1-bake system, an aqueous coating comprising (A) a water-dispersible film-forming acrylic polymer, (B) a crosslinking agent prepared by dispersing in water, in the presence of a water-soluble resin, a hydrophobic melamine resin with a solvent dilution factor inwater/methanol mixed solvent (weight ratio=35/65)<=20 and weight-average molecular weight 800-4,000 and (C) a pigment.
