PURPOSE:To improve the C/N ratio of a single-crystal ferrite by adding a specific weight ratio of silicon oxide to Mn-Zn single-crystal ferrite. CONSTITUTION:0.05-5% silicon oxide is added to Mn-Zn ferrite which contains 45-65 molar % ferric oxide, 20-45 molar % manganese oxide, and 5-30 molar % zinc oxide, the mixture is then mixed, and preburnt according to a normal powder metallurgic method, and produced as single crystal at 1680 deg.C. If the silicon oxide is mixed at a ratio of 0.05% or less, the composition point of high initial permeability is discovered with high saturation magnetic flux density, but its sliding noise similarly increases. If the adding amount exceeds 5.0%, the initial permeability mu excessively decreases. As a result, a head performance C/N is decreased. Thus, the mu tends to decrease, but the C/N can be improved.
