PURPOSE:To display a bright image in full color and to miniaturize a device by projecting the image on a liquid crystal panel onto a screen by an optical system consisting of a high-luminance lamp, lenses, and mirrors. CONSTITUTION:The light emitted from a lamp in a light source part is projected on the surface of the liquid crystal panel by a concave mirror 22 and a condenser lens group 23, and the image on the surface of the liquid crystal panel is expanded by a projection optical system and is formed and projected on the surface of a screen 45. That is, the light emitted from a lamp 21 like a halogen lamp is condensed by the concave mirror 22 and the lens group 23 and is projected to a transmission type liquid crystal panel 31, and thermal rays (infrared rays) from the lamp 21 are eliminated by a cold mirror and a cold filter and only visible rays are projected to the liquid crystal panel 31. The liquid crystal panel 31 is driven by the video signal from a video signal generating part 32 to generate an image pattern. Thus, a small-sized large-screen display device having a bright screen is obtained.
