NEW MATERIAL:2,2-Difluoro-1-(1-naphthyl)-1-propanone expressed by the formula. USE:Useful as a blending material for insulating oils, medicines, agricultural chemicals, photosensitive materials, raw material or intermediate therefor and capable of remarkably improving dielectric constant by blending with well- known electrical insulating oils, e.g. mineral oil based insulating oil or synthetic insulating oils, such as hard type alkylbenzene, soft type alkylbenzene, polybutene, alkylnaphthalene and silicone oil. PREPARATION:For example, a mixture of 1-(1-naphthyl)-1-propanone with 1-(2- naphthyl)-1-propanone synthesized by the Friedel-Crafts reaction as a raw material is subjected to substitution of hydrogen atom at the 2-position with bromine atom using a brominating agent and the resultant product is then dissolved in a solvent. A compound obtained by recrystallization, separation and purification of the obtained solution is reacted with a fluorinating agent and subsequently distilled to afford the aimed compound expressed by the formula.
