PURPOSE:To accurately discriminate the number of a sample container, by correcting a set value corresponding to the fluctuation of the detection output based on vibration due to the rising and falling of the container at the time of scanning to accurately discriminate a discriminating groove. CONSTITUTION:A container raising and lowering apparatus 6 is constituted of a raising and lowering gear 7 for raising and lowering a rising and falling table 9 having a container 1 placed therein, a driving reversible motor 8 and two sensing coils 3 for detecting the pattern of the grooves 2 carved in the outer periphery of the container 1. A signal processing amplifier 4 is constituted of a comparator 11 for comparing the output of a differential amplifier 10, which operates the difference between the output signals of two sensing coils 3, with the set values corresponding to a shallow and deep grooves to output binary signals of '1', '0' and a setting circuit 12 thereof. Further, a bias circuit for applying the divided voltage of the output voltage V of the differential amplifier 10 to the set value of the setting circuit of the comparator 11 as bias voltage to correct the set value corresponding to the fluctuation of the output voltage V is added and the set value VH for the deep groove automatically changed corresponding to the fluctuation of the output voltage to correctly discriminate the groove and the number of the container is accurately discriminated.
