PURPOSE:To obtain a dust core with high mui and excellent mu-f characteristics and less core loss by a method wherein a mixture of solvent with electrically insulating properties and binding properties, fine particles of electrically insulating material and metal magnetic powder is molded by compression. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of solvent with electrically insulating properties and binding properties, fine particles (particle diameter is 1 mum or less) of electrically insulating material and metal soft magnetic powder is molded by compression. For instance, 0.72 wt.% of silicon varnish and 0.2 wt.% of SiO2 whose particle diameter is 1mum or less are added to iron powder of 200 mesh and mixed. After the mixture is dried at 150 deg.C, 0.3 wt.% of zinc stearate is added to the mixture and mixed. After the mixture is filtered by a 30 mesh filter, the mixture is molded by compression under the pressure of 7-8 ton/cm<2> to form a dust core. The magnetic characteristics of this dust core show a high mui and mu-f characteristics can be also improved.
