PURPOSE:To form a multicolor image of high quality by providing a means which delays and adjusts the transmission timing of a horizontal synchronizing signal. CONSTITUTION:A waveform shaping circuit 1 shapes the waveform of the light quantity signal of a laser beam detected by a beam detector 5 and outputs a horizontal synchronizing signal BD1 for determining the image recording start position of a photosensitive drum Dr. A waveform shaping circuit 2 shapes a light quantity signal detected by a beam detector 6 at a position precedent to the detector 5 in the main scanning direction of the Dr and inputs a pulse signal PBD2 for generating a horizontal synchronizing signal DB2 at timing precedent to the signal BD1 to a one-shot circuit 3a and outputs an adjusting pulse 3c to a one-shot circuit 4 in synchronism with the signal PBD2. A pulse width adjusting device 3b adjusts the pulse 3c to adjust the detection time lag of a laser beam scanned in the relative arrangement distance difference area between the detectors 5 and 6 so that the signal PBD2 synchronizes with the leading edge of the signal BD1. Consequently, the multicolor image of high quality is formed.
