PURPOSE:To promote the automatization of polishing work for a metal mold or the like, by unconditionally determining applied voltage and a phase to each vibrator and vibrating a grinding wheel as assigned by the compounded vibration if a direction of vibration and its amplitude, desired to be given to the grinding wheel, are assigned. CONSTITUTION:A control unit 120 performs polishing by rotating a grinding wheel 48 while it is fed in a predetermined direction by turning a turning arm 106 and moving a slide head 108 and vertically moved by a motor MZ. In accordance with the feed direction of the grinding wheel 48 and a tilt angle of a workpiece 116, if a direction of vibration and its amplitude, desired to be given to the grinding wheel 48, are assigned by a grinding wheel vibration assigning means 130, a level of voltage and its phase to be applied to each vibrator 12A-12C in a vibrator holder 10 for a polishing tool 100 are unconditionally determined by an applied voltage control means 140, and a machine, transmitting the compounded vibration of each vibrator 12A-12C to the grinding wheel 48, vibrates it in the direction and the amplitude as assigned. In this way, workpiece polishing work of a metal mold or the like having a free curved surface can be automatized.
