PURPOSE:To facilitate insertion/removal of the intermediate portion of an ink ribbon into/from a gap between a platen and a thermal head, by moving a transfer unit in the direction where the thermal head approaches/separates to/from the platen. CONSTITUTION:When approximately entire area of an ink ribbon 27 has been used up, a cover 10 is first rotated upward around a shaft 11 so as to open an open section 9. Then an engaging click 34 of a transfer unit 14 is disengaged by fingers from an engaging pin 37. Consequently, a supporting pin 35 is moved along an elongated hole 35 to one side of a case 1 integrally with the transfer unit 14 by the energizing force of a spring 36 so as to separate a thermal head 18 from a platen 40 and a gear 29 from a gear 43. Consequently, intermediate portion of the ink ribbon 27 sandwiched between the platen 40 and the thermal head 18 is released, and thereby the ink ribbon 27 can be taken out entirely from the transfer unit 14 with high efficiency. As a result, a new ink ribbon 27 can be easily assembled into the transfer unit 14 in place of the used ink ribbon 27. |
