The invention relates to a lifting device, operated by muscular power, for vehicles propelled by muscular power or by means of a motor. According to the invention, it is provided that the axle (2) of the pair of load-bearing wheels is turned by way of a long lever which at the same time is the handlebars. The bearing arrangement of the wheels (3) is situated on the axle (2), on short lever arms (4), and, as a result, the wheels are pivoted upwards or downwards by the axle (2). When the wheel (3) makes contact with the ground, the axle (2) is pivoted upwards by the lever movement. If the axle (2) of the vehicle is moved under a load, or if a load is moved onto the axle of the vehicle, this load can be raised and moved by the vehicle. <IMAGE>
