PURPOSE:To obtain a carcinostatic agent having excellent carcinostatic activity in spite of low toxicity, containing a specific hydroxyphenyl fatty acid or a derivative thereof as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:A carcinostatic agent which contains a hydroxyphenyl fatty acid such as a compound shown by the formula (X and Y are in X+Y+3=10-24), obtained by adding phenol to 8-24C unsaturated fatty acid, one or more of myristoleic acid, palmitoleic acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid, chondroic acid and erucic acid, as an active ingredient, shows excellent carcinostatic effects on many cancers and has extremely low toxicity because the agent is obtained from the unsaturated fatty acid such as olefic acid or palmitoleic acid abundantly existing in the natural world and being a major component for fats and oils for main foods as a raw material. As administration method, the agent is directly applied to the affected part and a dose is preferably 5-400mg/kg/day.
