PURPOSE:To obtain monodispersed fine copper particles of a narrow grain size distribution which are not obtainable with a conventional method by bringing metal copper and acidic aq. copper sulfate soln. added with protective colloid into catalytic reaction at a relatively high temp. and subjecting the resulted aq. cuprous sulfate soln. to rapid cooling in a nonoxidative atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:The metal copper and the aq. copper sulfate soln. of <=1 pH added with the protective colloid of gelatin, etc., are brought into the catalytic reaction with each other at a high temp. of >=150 deg.C, for example, 200 deg.C in the nonoxidative atmosphere such as gaseous N2 atmosphere. The aq. cuprous sulfate as shown by the formula Cu<2+>+Cu<0> 2Cu<+> is thereby obtd. Said aq. cuprous sulfate soln. is then rapidly cooled down to <=100 deg.C, for example, <=20 deg.C in the same nonoxidative atmosphere as mentioned above, by which the desired fine copper particles are obtd. The protective colloid is added in order to form the finer particles and to obtain the monodispersed particles.
