PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a passivating agent for a metal at low temperature in high yield and purity without using a solvent, by reacting antimony trioxide with a specific organic mercaptan in the presence of a lower aliphatic carboxylic acid. CONSTITUTION:(A) Antimony trioxide is reacted with (B) an organic mercaptan (e.g. ethanethiol, cyclohexanethiol, etc.) expressed by the formula R<1>-SH (R<1> is 1-18C alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl, cyclohexanethiol, etc.) in the presence of (C) a lower aliphatic carboxylic acid (preferably formic acid, acetic acid or propionic acid), preferably at 50-100 deg.C to provide the aimed compound. The component (B) is used at a ratio of 6.45-8mol. based on the component (A).
