PURPOSE:To improve the activity of a catalyst by impregnating a thio acid into the catalyst composing specified metallic components supported on an inorg. acid as a carrier. CONSTITUTION:Oxides of active metals such as Mo, W, Co and Ni are supported on an inorg. oxide carrier such as alumina or silica-alumina. A thio acid such as thioacetic acid or thiobenzoic acid is impregnated into the resulting catalyst and the catalyst is activated preferably at 100-300 deg.C. Thus, the hydrogenating capacity can be improved.
