PURPOSE:To efficiently compose a sentence, by a method wherein, the replacement and insertion of a character code in an external storage device is carried out, and an unnecessary line is deleted if generated when the replacing operation is skipped on a skip instruction. CONSTITUTION:When a special key except for character data, such as a return key, has been inputted into an input mode, i.e. when a user instructs a data input to be passed, the replacement with new character data is not carried out and, thus, a replacing operation is applied to succeeding replaceable character code strings. At this time, a character string to be replaced has been already deleted. But, in some cases, a whole one line can be deleted, which results in two return codes 66 continuously arranged. The controller 42 operates a pointer 64 to check the arrangement of the return codes whether the return codes are continuously arranged. If the presence of continuous arrangement is detected, one return code is deleted, and the character string is made closer by the deleted amount. |
