Heavy and light slurry fractions are separated in an apparatus comprising a rotating support surface over which a film of the slurry is formed. As the thin layer flows along the surface the heavier particles concentrate next to the surface while the lighter particles are forced into the film fraction closest to the axis of revolution. The film passes over a splitter to divide the slurry into heavy and light fractions.
