[Class 114] Each blade root of a variable-pitch air screw has an external projection carrying a roller thrust bearing, and between this and an internal projection on the hub socket is disposed a compression spring or like resilient load carrier. Blade 10 has at its root a sleeve 11 and formed integrally therewith is a projection 14 carrying one race 15 of the conical rollers 16, the other race 17 being held by the internal collar 18 through the intermediary of spring washers 29, 30. The sleeve 11 has also another flange 21 near its root which supports the race 22 of the conical rollers 23, the other race 24 being held by the flange of a sleeve 25. The axes of the conical rollers 16, 23 make angles of 60‹ and 45‹ respectively with and meet at a common point P on the axis XX. Between a ring 30 and a collar 18 is provided a metal plate 31 curved so as to enclose the rubber packing washer 32 which engages a cylindrical portion of the sleeve 11 in an oil-tight manner. Large cavities in the assembly are filled in with cork blocks 33 held in place by wire 34 and a cork ring 35 is inserted beneath the rubber packing ring 32. Specification 480,747 is referred to. |
