<p>A device for driving a magnetic tape loaded into a magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus at high speeds. In this device, either one of a pair of reel plates (1, 2) on the driven side and on the drive side for driving the magnetic tape (3) at high speeds is selectively driven by a reel motor (5) via power transmission mechanisms (6, 7). Brake mechanisms (8, 9) are provided on the reel plate (1, 2) of the driven side between said pair of reel plates. Load detect circuits (25, 31, 26) detect a predetermined value that corresponds to a change of load of the reel motor (5) that drives the magnetic tape (3) at high speeds. Control units (26, 14, 15, 18, 20, 13) control the braking force of the brake mechanisms (8, 9) based upon detect outputs of the load detect circuits (25, 31, 26). According to this invention, the current of the reel motor can be decreased while maintaining a necessary tape tension, and the tape is prevented from being squeezed.</p> |
