PURPOSE:To set the exposure potential to a light part on a photosensitive body to a uniform exposure level by adjusting the quantity of light of an optical system capable of projecting the light on an optional axial position on the photosensitive body according to previously stored exposure potential characteristic information on a light source. CONSTITUTION:This device is provided with a ROM 12a as a potential information memory which stores previously characteristic information on an exposure potential generated on a photosensitive drum 3 as the photosensitive body through a scanning system and a controller 12 as a light quantity adjusting means which adjusts the quantity of light projected from the optical system in the axial direction of the photosensitive body according to the exposure potential characteristic information stored in the ROM 12a. Namely, the driving pulse width of the semiconductor laser of a laser scanning system 11 is so adjusted that the exposure potential of the exposed photosensitive drum 3 is the preset light part potential, thereby adjusting the quantity of the laser beam from the semiconductor laser in beam diameter units. Consequently, the surface charge level on the photosensitive drum 3 is set and controlled to a constant exposure potential level. |
