PURPOSE:To prevent occurrence of an after image phenomenon when an animation is displayed or the smooth scrolling display of characters is made by forming a metallic electrode along at least one-side edge of a stripe-like transparent electrode on a base plate in such a state that the metallic electrode comes out from the edge. CONSTITUTION:A electrode base plate 11 is provided with stripe-like transparent electrodes 2 provided on a base plate 1 and thin-wire metallic electrodes 3 having coming-out sections 5 coming out from the edge sections 2a of the electrodes 2. The coming-out sections 5 are provided at positions at which the adjacent transparent electrodes 2 are not electrically connected with each other and generally have widths of about 3-10mum. The width of the sections M where the thin-wire metallic electrodes 3 overlap the stripe-like transparent electrodes 2 is about 0.5-10mum and the opening rate can be improved as the width of the sections M is made smaller. An orientation controlling film to which a uniaxial orientation process is performed is provided on the electrode base plate 11. When such constitution is used, occurrence of an after image can be prevented when the animation is displayed or a smooth scrolling display of characters is performed. |
