[Class 7 (iii)] A spherical combustion chamber 20 is formed partly by a recess in the cylinder head and partly by a removable cover 21, and is connected to the engine cylinder by an inclined passage 18 extending from a point at one side of the cylinder axis and bent outwardly so that it enters the combustion chamber tangentially. Recesses 26, 27 are cut in the wall of the passage to enable fuel to be delivered through a nozzle 22 partly into the chamber 20 and partly along the transfer passage. A recess 29 is provided in the piston in line with the transfer passage which tapers towards the chamber 20. The portion of the chamber in the head may be provided with a heat-insulated liner.
