PURPOSE:To rapidly execute writing as compared with a case for fixing electrodes by moving the electrodes at the same speed as the moving speed of a recording medium having a recording layer consisting of high molecular liquid crystal to be read. CONSTITUTION:The recording medium 14 is constituted by sealing the recording layer 1 consisting of the higher molecular liquid crystal indicating thermotropic liquid crystal property between a pair of substrates 3 and orientation films 2. After irradiating the recording medium 14 with a laser beam 5 radiated from a semiconductor laser device 7 to heat the medium 14 at about 70 deg.C, the medium 14 is moved at 4cm/sec speed. When the electrodes 4, 4' are moved at the same speed as the moving speed of the medium 14 more than 1msec e.g., by impressing an electric field to the electrodes 4, 4', raid recording can be attained as compared to the case fixing the electrodes 4, 4'. The written recording layer 1 generates the structure change of the high molecular liquid crystal due to the influence of the electric field, but the change can be erased by cooling the recording layer 1 after heating it again. |
