PURPOSE:To obtain a fluorination catalyst useful to produce fluorocarbon compds. with high selectivity in high yields by allowing indium to react with hydrogen fluoride in a vapor phase. CONSTITUTION:Metallic indium and/or an indium compd. such as indium chloride or indium nitrate is allowed to react with hydrogen fluoride in a vapor phase to produce a catalyst used in the production of fluorocarbon compds. from aliphat. chlorohydrocarbons or aliphat. chlorofluorohydrocarbons and hydrogen fluoride. The metallic indium and the indium compd. used may be supported on a carrier such as alumina or activated carbon. The catalyst is useful to stably produce fluorocarbon compds. with high selectivity in high yields.
