In a conventional portion (0) of the device, one contact (20,21) of the pilot flame monitor relay (18) is wired in a circuit (2) connecting the pilot burner ignitor (1) via the contact (28,29) of another relay (26) to mains terminals (30,31). The novel portion (A) includes two pref. magnetic valves (34,35) in series with the contact (8,9) of the gas supply relay (6). A higher power setting is available for the pilot valve (35), whose coil dropout is delayed beyond the time-constant of the main burner valve (34), than is required to maintain gas supply in stationary operation. Another contact (23,24) of the pilot relay (18) is in parallel with the coil of the main burner valve (34). ADVANTAGE - Pilot valve control is incorporated into that of main burner without increasing DC load on existing mains equipment.
