A method for treating a radioactive waste resin by pyrolyzing radioactive waste ion exchange resin generated in a nuclear plant comprises (a) pyrolytically decomposing ion exchange gps. of the ion exchange resin in the presence of a collecting agent at low temp., and (b) pyrolytically decomposing polymeric gases of the ion exchange resin in the presence of an oxidizing agent at high temp. The collecting agent is pref. MnO3, NiO, CaO or their mixt.
