PURPOSE:To obtain a thermal recording material excellent in thermal response and having high color forming density by incorporating a specific compound as an electron acceptive compound. CONSTITUTION:A compound represented by formula 1 (wherein R is hydrogen or an alkyl group) is contained as an electron acceptive compound reacting with a usually colorless or light-colored dye precursor at the time of heating to allow said dye precursor to form a color. For example, this compound can be obtained by reacting a catechol derivative and an alpha-methylstyrene derivative in an acid catalyst. When this compound is used in a thermal recording material, one having an m.p. of 60-160 deg.C is pref. from a practical aspect. This compound is added in an amount of 5-400wt.%, especially pref., 20-300wt.% of the dye precursor. |
