The present invention relates to a method making it possible to align the members, such as the support rolls (back-up rolls) and the ingot mould, of a machine for continuous horizontal casing of metals, consisting in establishing a rectilinear direction by means of a laser beam, in measuring the distances between each of the said members and the laser beams in accordance with the location of the point of impact of the said beam on a target of which the position is indexed with respect to each member to be aligned, and in displacing the said members by aligning them with a given rectilinear direction, the directions and lengths of displacement of the members being deduced from the results of the said measurements.
