PURPOSE:To maintain effective flux constant and to maintain 100% power factor of a salient pole motor regardless of variation of load. CONSTITUTION:A current command operating unit 4' comprises a multiplier 41, a subtractor 42, an M-T/alpha-beta coordinate converter 43, a two-phase/three- phase converter, a divider 45, a correcting amount operating unit 46, and an adder 47. The correcting amount operating unit 46 performs operation, shown by formula 1, based on a torque component command value iT* of armature current and sine value of pole angle delta. Here, Md represents direct-axis(d-axis) armature reaction inductance of synchronous motor and Mq represents quadrature-axis(q-axis) armature reaction inductance. The divider 45 performs operation, shown by formula 2, based on a magnetizing current command value imu* and the cosine value of the pole angle delta.
