This bench is characterised by the fact that it comprises a central part consisting of two elements hinged to each other via a hinge 25 and supporting, respectively, a so-called standby cushion 21 and a so-called work cushion 22. A slide system makes it possible to place, as required, one or other of these elements under the patient positioned on the bench, and a locking system allows the disengaged cushion to be held cantilevered as an extension of the other. The work cushion 22 thus raised serves for the preparation of the cast to be slid subsequently under the back of the patient. <IMAGE>
