SEMICONDUCTOR LASER MODULE

PURPOSE:To allow the above module to function as an optical isolator even in any case and to reduce the number of constituting parts by providing a polarizing lens constituted of a material having double refractiveness with a condensing function and polarizing function. CONSTITUTION:This module has the circular cylindrical polarizing lens 2 which consists of a double refractive index material and one end face of which is polished to a spherical surface, a Faraday rotator constituted of a Faraday optical rotating element 3 which rotates the plane of polarization of light by 45 deg. and a permanent magnet 6 which applies a magnetic field to the Faraday optical rotating element. The exit light of a semiconductor laser chip 1 is condensed by the polarizing lens 2 and is inputted through the Faraday rotator and an analyzer 4 to an optical fiber 5. Since the polarizing element is provided with the lens effect in such a manner, the function as the isolator is not impaired and the number of parts is reduced. The assembly is thus simplified.
