Disclosed are purified proteins which naturally occur in vertebrate cells expressing MHC class II genes, regulate the expression of vertebrate MHC class II genes, and bind to DNA sequences controlling the expression of these MHC class II genes. Furthermore, DNA sequences encoding said proteins are disclosed. Still further, recombinant DNA molecules containing said DNA sequences are disclosed as well as transformed microorganisms and processes in which these are used for the production of said proteins. Finally, pharmaceutical compositions for the treatment of diseases which are caused by an aberrant expression of MHC class II genes are disclosed. |
