PURPOSE:To reduce the time of infusibilization reaction by heat-treating a mixture of specified polymer compd. and pitch (precursor), then molding, infusibilizing and baking the mixture for carbonization. CONSTITUTION:The mixture comprises 0.5-50wt.% polymer compd. and 99.5-50wt.% pitch (precursor) (e.g. coal-tar pitch). The polymer compd. (e.g. polyphenylene sulfide) contains an aromatic ring and at least one of S, O or N atom in its recurring unit, and the polymer shows compatibility with pitch (precursor) after heat-treated. The mixture is heat-treated in nitrogen flow at 350-450 deg.C for 0.5-10 hours to obtain a pitch for molding. Then the pitch is molded, treated under reduced pressure at 280-330 deg.C for 0.5-3 hours to remove melting components and then baked in an inert gas with increasing temp. by 5-50 deg.C/min up to over 900 deg.C for carbonization. |
