A decanting vessel for separation of liquid phases of different densities. The decanter vessel is provided with several separation levels disposed on top of each other to form consecutive independent decanter elements between them. The invention presents an improved operation wherein disturbances in the desired laminary flow and the formation of detrimental emulsion in the boundary surface of the phases are avoided.
