PURPOSE:To improve the operability of a file system by deciding whether a file to be transcribed can be totally transcribed to a storage area, i.e., the transcribing destination in accordance with the size information added to the attribute information. CONSTITUTION:A CPU 10 stores a file system, in which a file of the transcribing destination serves as a part of constitution, into a real memory 16 from a file server 22 via an Ethernet control part 19. When a transcription operating request is received, the CPU 10 discontinues the transcribing operation as long as the shortage of the memory capacity is decided for the transcribing destination. If the sufficient memory capacity is confirmed, a file to be transcribed is totally transcribed to a directory file of the transcribing destination. Then the value of a partial tree size showing the memory capacity of a file smaller than the working directory file included in the attribute of the directory file is rewritten into the value added with the stored file size. At the same time, a transcribing operation is carried out for addition of the information on the transcribed file name. Then a operation is through.
