The subject of the present invention is a circular device for the shearing/slitting (paring) of sheet metal in the cold state, particularly of thin and ultrathin sheet metal, including two parallel cylindrical shafts (4, 5) each one supporting circular cutting blades (10), at least one of the said cylindrical shafts (4, 5) being movable to ensure that the cutting blades (10) cross over. According to the invention, the device includes means (21a, 21b) for controlling and means (23a, 23b) for vertical displacement of the or each movable shaft (4, 5), which means are located at each end of the or each movable shaft (4, 5) and are independent for each of the said ends, and means (25a, 25b) for detecting the position of the shafts (4, 5) with respect to each other, piloting the means (21a, 21b) for controlling the vertical displacement of the or of each movable shaft (4, 5) in order to ensure the positioning of the cutting blades (10). <IMAGE>
