Process for the preparation of mercaptomethylphenols There is disclosed a process for the preparation from phenols by reaction with formaldehyde and mercaptans in the presence of mono-, di-or trimethylamine or mono- or diethylamine of compounds of formula I or II (I) (II) wherein for example, R1 is C1-C20alkyl, R2 is hydrogen or C1-C20alkyl, R3 and R4 are each independently of the other C1-C20alkyl, allyl or C5-C12cycloalkyl, Z, is -S- and Z2 is hydrogen, C1-C20alkyl or CH2-S-R1. The mercaptomethylphenols are valuable antioxidants for plastics, elastomers, mineral oils and synthetic lubricants. |
