71 Disclosed is an isolated polypeptide (type II polypeptide) comprising a physiologically active human thrombomodulin polypeptide which has the activity of promoting the thrombin-catalyzed activation of protein C and which has a sugar chain comprising chondroitin and/or chondroitin sulfate attached to the peptide chain of the polypeptide. The type II polypeptide of the present invention can be obtained in an isolated form from a conventional culture containing an expression product of the human thrombomodulin polypeptide gene which culture has been obtained by, for example, recombinant DNA techniques. The type II polypeptide of the present invention has excellent anticoagulant, platelet aggregation inhibiting and thrombolytic activities.
